“I don’t want to earn my living; I want to live.”

Oscar Wilde

Exactly. This is exactly how I feel about life. I think there is a definite misconception in our world – that you have to earn your living, that you have to justify your life. I don’t believe God wants us to feel that way. I think that is a human concept, not a spiritual one.

We have the right to live – just live. What we do with this life is our business. We don’t have to please anyone, or live up to anyone else’s standard. All we have to do is be. Seriously. That’s it.

The subject of this inspirational quote can actually go very deeply and in multiple directions, but for me, it brings up one very interesting issue that I have pondered at great length over the years. Do you believe you need money to live? Would it blow your mind if I told you that you don’t? Well, you don’t. You do not have to “earn a living” at all. Look across the globe. There are many people in many corners of the world that live happily and freely and in pure authenticity and don’t have a concept of money at all, or don’t play by those rules or that construct. You can absolutely live and breathe and eat and drink and enjoy your life without a single dime, ever. Just think about that.

I know, in our society, we believe we need money to live, and maybe in our society we actually do. And that’s fine. I won’t argue with you, if that is what you want to hang on to. I’m just asking you to think about the CONCEPT of how you could live without money. Because, if you could just unhook yourself from that belief, even for an instant, to realize that at the core of being a human, this is not the truth. you would know the feeling of true freedom. The freedom that God intended for us from the get-go.

There’s a song that I think this quote goes along with quite well… it is from a lesser known band, The Rainmakers. The song is Let My People Go-Go. The chorus goes like this: “I did not put you here to suffer, I did not put you here to whine. I put you here to love one another and to get out and have a good time.”  Here’s a video, if you want to hear the whole song:

So, anyhow… focusing on this belief that we need to “earn a living” and focusing so heavily on the belief that we need money to live… well, all it does is keep us held down. If you are waiting until you have enough money or until you’ve earned the right to really live, you’ll never just live. Set yourself free. You aren’t meant to spend your life suffering. You aren’t meant to spend your life whining. You are meant to LIVE Authentically… to LOVE Authentically and yes, to get out and have a good time! And you know what the real secret is? If you do that, and I mean REALLY do that… you might just discover that the money will find you!

I hope that this inspirational quote from Oscar Wilde will help you to really think about what it is you want in your life. I hope it inspires you to find your way away from “earning a living” to actually LIVING.

Peace out my friend!
